Open goods wagon 51554 van Hoogovens Stoom IJmuiden (HSIJ)

These cars are designed for the transport of 2 Sherman tanks. They were built with a view to the invasion of Europe according to the Great Western boundary profile. In 1946 the car was driven from dump E530 in Antwerp to Beverwijk as a carrier for the boom of a rail crane. At the Hoogovens, the wagon was used as a plate wagon.

 

 

Over time, the wooden floor has been replaced by a steel floor.

 

The buffer beam has been weighted and widened, the brakes have been removed, as have the screw jacks under the buffer beam. The buffers have been replaced by standard 50 tons of blast furnace buffers.

 

In 1971 the car was added as an auxiliary car for the re-railing train.

 

At NS, 50 such wagons have been used as rail transport wagons from road and works in the series 51554. This is one of the 3 preserved 'warflats' in Europe.

 

In the course of October 2017, a start was made on the revision of this warflat. The deck was lifted and the bogies disassembled. 4 new spring seats were made for the bogies and all roller bearings were checked. The carriage deck was blasted and powder coated by an external company. On August 17, 2021, the car deck was put back on the bogies with the help of a crane in the ports of Tata Steel and the car was further finished and painted in the color scheme of 1944. The revision was completed on November 30, 2021.
