Locomotive 995 van Hoogovens Stoom IJmuiden (HSIJ)

Between 1963 and 1971, the American General Electric supplied 26 of this type of locomotives to Hoogovens. Over the years, numbers 901 - 909 have been converted to radio control. the other locomotives have numbers 983-999.

 

This locomotive was put into use by the HSIJ in 2007. This locomotive was on reserve at the steel company and would still be used at the HSIJ. This kept the locomotive in good condition. The locomotive was painted at the end of 2007 and was equipped with the new digital mobile phone system.

 

In March 2023, the HSIJ said goodbye to this loyal GE. It will be converted into a BEMO locomotive at the CW (Central Workshop HTD) and will then serve again at the Hoogovens. When converting to a BEMO locomotive, the frame and bogies will be reused. The superstructure is completely new and consists of 2 generators and the cabin in the middle.

 

The shunting work at the HSIJ is now done by the Sik 316. Supplemented by an O&K from the steel company for when heavier work needs to be done.
