Orenstein & Koppel have been active since the 19th century producing large amounts of narrow gauge equipment and has exported their products worldwide. In many countries they had local offices.
After the second worldwar much of their production facilities fell behind the iron curtain, and the O&K company had to build a new production facility in western Germany, which they did in co-orporation with the 'Lübecker Maschinenbau AG LMAG' in Dortmund. This is where this loco was build.
In 1981 O&K stopped their production of anything rail-related and focussed on mechanical diggers.
